David Pablo Cohn Just write. Don't worry about getting published. Write because you like writing, like telling a story. Put your stories up on a blog, or start a mailing list of family and friends. Agonizing over litfic journals and agents isn't going to make you a better writer. Writing will.

You need to be writing because you want to be a better writer, not because you want to get published and rich and famous. If all you want is to get published (esp if you're expecting fame and riches), you'll be miserable. And you won't get any better.

Just write, and put your writing out there. Your audience, even if it's half a dozen friends from college, will find you, and you'll learn from them what works and what doesn't. Write more.
David Pablo Cohn It's not a matter of getting inspired to write, really. It's a matter of forcing yourself into the habit of just sitting down and doing it, like going to the gym every day. You sit and you write. Maybe you reward yourself for it with a cappuccino or something, but you force yourself to do it. And most days you turn out pages of utter crap that you're going to throw away, but you keep putting words down on the page because every once in a while some of those words glimmer with a spark of something. And when they do, you can circle back and fan the spark into a flame and build it into something that *is* inspiring.
