Emma Batten I never stop writing. If I'm busy or stuck then I just do a few lines at a time. I create a dramatic event (usually a murder!) and suddenly the story has taken off again...
Emma Batten Having other people read your work and say it's great. Seeing your books on the shelves at home and in shops. Creating characters and events that seem so real. And not planning a story so the unexpected really does happen!

Don't rush into getting something published but take your time to get it right. Use a professional proof reader and cover designer. I didn't and I regret it. I do now!
Emma Batten I'm currently finishing a book set on Romney Marsh in the 1940s. The main section has gone to my proof reader and I am just finishing the last few chapters, which are set in 1958. It is the third and last in a family saga.
