I'm not really sure. Right now I'm just trying to get through all the different styles of programming in R, and meta-programming is one of these.

So far, it is all based on teaching. I wrote the first book to have material for a class on data science I was teaching and after that I have just continued writing on topics that I am either already teaching or would like to teach.

I just started a book on meta-programming. My plan is to write four-five short books on advanced R programming and then combine them into something I can get a publisher interested in.

It's just a hobby for me, really. It doesn't compete with my day time job as a scientist.

It hasn't really been a big problem for me. Of course, I can get stuck when I'm trying to write something, but I try to sit down and write for about an hour a day, half an hour in the morning before work and then half an hour to an hour in the evening, and I force myself to write when I sit down to do it. So I might not write much if I am stuck but I get *something* written. The hard part is getting started. I rarely sit for a full hour without getting *anything* done.
