Right now I'm about halfway through a manuscript about a young woman who decides on a whim to move to Oahu from Utah. It's been a lot of fun to reminisce about my vacations on the island while writing.

Lots of patience and practice. Someone once told me that from the time that they started writing their current book until it was actually published was about five years. That was incredibly discouraging to me, but looking back, also realistic. Don't give up if it takes a while. Keep writing, keep revising.
Especially keep writing. The more you write, the better you become, just like everything else in life. Write a blog, write a story, write a journal, but just keep writing!!
