Heidi Mastrogiovanni I'm currently reading "Beartown" by Fredrik Backman, and I am loving it. I loved his "A Man Called Ove," and so my plans for the summer include reading the three novels of his that I haven't read yet.
Heidi Mastrogiovanni It's got so many autobiographical elements, and it continues Lala's journey of finding happiness after great sorrow. So the idea really did come from my life and from Lala's life.
Heidi Mastrogiovanni I remind myself of Anne Lamott's excellent advice in her superb book, "Bird by Bird." She tells of having a blank one-inch frame on her desk. On days when she doesn't feel like getting to work, she tells herself that at least she can sit down and produce enough words to fill a one-inch square. And by the time she gets the square filled, she's usually in the right frame of mind to continue writing for the rest of the day.
Heidi Mastrogiovanni I do love making my own schedule, and I love working at home with my three senior rescued dogs. The best thing has to be spending time with words. I absolutely love our beautiful English language (and French and German, which have a way of sneaking into my work...).
Heidi Mastrogiovanni I have been asked this question a lot, and so I wrote a blog post about it:

Heidi Mastrogiovanni I'm completing the manuscript for the sequel to Lala's story, and I'm outlining a new comedic novel, working title "The Year of the Blizzard."
Heidi Mastrogiovanni My best inspiration comes from reading. A compelling story (in any genre, really) that is well told, that involves relationships and transformation... I find the work of my fellow authors to be a constant source of inspiration.
