I was inspired to start journaling first, during an intense season of therapy. I found freedom in getting all the heaviness off my chest, and writing was a safe medium for me to do this. What inspired me to write my book was how well I connected with another author while reading her book. The craft of her writing blew me away. She made me feel a lot of emotion while I was reading her words, and that was healing for me. So I thought, "What if I wrote in such a way that others might connect deeply with my story?" I knew I had trauma, and was working through it intentionally through therapy, and I was hopeful that one day I might be able to share my experiences. Let others to know that they weren't alone.

Currently, I'm working on staying mentally healthy while I promote my debut memoir, Oh Love, Come Close. This memoir was a ten year project in the making, and a very vulnerable one. So staying healthy while it releases into the world is just another part of a successful release. I'm also just soaking it all in. It's been a dream. I do have other projects on deck, but I cannot seem to focus on them quite yet.

Write even when you don't feel like it. And don't be critical of yourself when you write. The words will come. Sometimes it takes writing several paragraphs of meaningless stuff to get the words to flow, and to find what you want to say. Also, write as if no one is going to read it. Your voice matters and when you write authentically--and not try to mimic someone else--people will naturally connect with you.

The freedom I've found in writing honestly and without remorse. Not everything you write has to be published, so write what you need to say and get it all off your chest.

Push through!! Step away from the writing and go take a walk outside, or go take a hot shower, and then try again. If it doesn't come that day, try again the next! Also, reading ONLY books that push you to be a better writer while you are in the writing process. You can lean on other authors' work for support.
