Eric Gartman I am currently working on a history of the Holocaust, written with the same style I used in Return to Zion, easy to read text with eyewitness quotes, which are quite plentiful when dealing with this topic. I am also slowly updating my first book with the goal of eventually releasing an updated and expanded second edition.
Eric Gartman The best part of being a writer is being able to tell the story you want to tell on your terms. Its not like being at work where even if you do get to write, it about something someone else told you to write about, and in a manner not of your choosing. Being an author means freedom! Also, when you are done, the work is basically yours: you gave it life, your created it, you nurtured it. Yes, some people helped you along the way, but for the most part its yours, and yours alone.
Eric Gartman The best advice I have to aspiring writers is the same piece of advise I was given when I was starting: Practice your writing as much as possible! Your first efforts will not be masterpieces, and that's okay, since learning to write well is a very long process. But the more you practice, the better you'll get. Also try and get some feedback on your writing, whether it be from online sites where your writing is voted on as helpful or not, or writing classes, where your fellow students and your teacher provide more detailed responses. Classes and tutoring are not inexpensive, but they are a great way to improve your writing. So go out and start writing today!
Eric Gartman The idea for writing Return to Zion came to me one day when I was thinking about the current books on the subject. In my opinion, the story of Israel, its revival, its many wars, its brushes with death, was absolutely fascinating. But I felt the way in which the history books told the story was quite dry. So I figured if the professional couldn’t do the story justice, I would write it myself, in a manner that was easy to read and that captured what it was like to be there at the time through first-person accounts that conveyed the emotion of the scene. I started writing the next day. The end result is the book you now see in front of you.
