Dan Martin I have a routine. I get up every morning at 3:30am and write for a few hours before I head off to work. So while every now and then I'll find some nugget of inspiration walking down the street, or laughing with friends, or playing video games, and thinking "that's an interesting idea!", more often than not, my "inspiration" is simply writing. I'm inspired to write by writing. I know that sounds silly, or academic, but my best writing comes when I sit down to do the work. I love writing. So it's in this block of time that I'll write some sentence, or some line of dialogue that makes me smile, and know that I couldn't have written it if I didn't push myself every day to get up and do the work.
Dan Martin I'm actually poking around at my next idea. I definitely want to write a novel next, but I have a few ideas and haven't settled on one yet. I suppose that's the best kind of problem to have.
Dan Martin Never. Stop. Writing.

You only get better when you keep at it.
Dan Martin I treat myself right. I take myself out on a date: a movie, dinner, the works. There's no point in getting frustrated and depressed. It'll pass. Might as well enjoy it.
Dan Martin The moment when I was at 35,000 feet up, flying over Greenland, playing frisbee in the empty cargo bay of our KC-10, and drinking a beer. I had this out-of-body experience where I just thought, 'I should write about this'. It took a long time to get from then until now, but when I realized that no one else had really written about the absurd experience that a lot of people have in the military, and I knew I had to share my stories.
