Walking in the park with my dogs, I met a woman, also with her dog, who had lost her husband the previous night. That got me to thinking about dogs and walking as therapy, and Dare to Remember started there.

Once I have an idea in my head, I don't need any further encouragement - I just want to get it down in writing. I'm constantly noticing things which would make a good story, and trying things out. I try to make a note of the good ones for the future - then if I ever run out of ideas, I can look back in my notes and see if I can work with any of them.
Using the thought - what if? is also useful. Looking at almost any situation, you can imagine what would happen if things went differently...

Read as much as you can. Get into the habit of writing every day, but don't beat yourself up if you can't manage every day. Remember, the first draft is a working document and is there for you to work on!

I don't really think I get 'writer's block.' I may have to stop for a while, when I can't see a way through, but I continue to think it over until I come up with either a solution or an number of possibilities. Leaving the story for a few days helps sometimes.
