Catherine Spader The idea first sprouted when I was 11 and saw the bones of Charlemagne encased in a golden reliquaries in Aachen, Germany. I was instantly fascinated by the told, and untold, stories of the Middle ages. Why did people preserve and worship the bones, body parts, and effects of important people, such as kings, saints, and Jesus Christ? Did relics give people living in difficult times a sense of power, hope, redemption, control, or spiritualism? Many stories raced through my mind...My first novel, Feast of the Raven, follows the story of Gerwulf, a savage warrior, believed to be possessed by an ancient wolf demon. He seeks deliverance from his demon by possessing a powerful holy relic but soon discovers that redemption must come from within.
