Naturally, I would choose to go to Shadow World. Specifically, I would go to Pelantaria. It is a beautiful city, and the people who reside there are united behind a purpose that is greater than themselves. If I was not allowed to be trained as a warrior, I would ask to be trained as a weapon smith.

Communicating with people who have read your book. A book becomes very personal. To you, the characters are living creations, formed from your imagination. Conversing with someone else who has learned of them and appreciates the wonder of the world they live in is a joyous experience. My readers have commented about the passion I show as I talk about the characters in my books. Because to me, it is almost the same as talking about my children. I love to share their adventures.

Recognize that creating a book is work. First, you have to have an interesting story to tell. If you have that, get it down in writing. Then, gather people you trust to provide honest feedback, and ask them to read what you have written. Take their advice seriously, but never sacrifice the essence of your tale. You know the characters you are portraying. You should know how they think and what motivates them. Be true to the characters you have created. Never allow yourself to be persuaded to change the book in a way that goes against the nature of your characters.

I am finishing the revisions for book 3 of the Shadow World Chronicles. Book 4 is already written and revisions have begun on it. Book 5 is still swirling around in my mind. I will write it once Book 3 is out in print. Afterwards, I have two more tales that are whirling around my mind; both of which I am about ready to transition into a book.

Writing is actually the easy part. The hard part is revising and editing. I tend to have several stories whirling around in my head at any given time. I allow them to stay there until I feel I know the people involved. Then, I simply tell their tale.

I pull away from the computer and do something else. While engaged in something else, I allow my imagination to roam through a scene with the characters freely. Once I have seen what they are doing, I can write about it.

While deployed in a foreign country, one of my soldiers bragged about hiring a person to kill me. I had to work with authorities and a good friend to determine if an assassin was hunting me and stop the contract on my life. Some of the inspiration behind the character, Dannock, in my books, came from my friend who stopped at nothing to get to the truth.
