There were multiple influences for 'The Siren Wakes' it started off as a psychological thriller where I wanted to question identity. Then I had the idea for a zombie like sickness but with the moral quandary of the people waking up from the sickness afterwards- Are these people blameless for their crimes? How do you deal with someone who has committed horrific crimes but it was due to a sickness. The world evolved onward from this and the book was born.

Personally my inspiration is pretty sporadic. I will see something while out and about which will spark an idea, I run the ideas through my head again and again and eventually it evolves into a plot point or maybe an influence for a character.

I am currently working on the sequel to my first book 'The Siren Wakes'. The working title is 'Beyond Midnight'.

Writing takes a lot of hard work and effort. Just keep at it and focus on what you want. Lots of people will tell you how to write but you want to stay true to yourself and stay true to your own story.

If I get writer's block I try to approach the issue from a different angle, maybe try writing a different chapter or confront the reason I am getting writer's block. If you realise what is causing you to have an issue writing then you can fix it. For instance if you have strayed off the main plot or need a new event to happen in the scene to drive the story onward.
