Dan Green Friedrich and Eva Mendelssohn, who after supporting other refugees in their flight from Nazi occupied Austria, open a multi-ethnic dental practice in the Old City of Jerusalem promoting tolerance and reconciliation.
Dan Green I don't dwell on it and I go back to my comments above about getting down to work on something and writing through any blocks you may encounter. Plough ahead, damn the torpedoes.
I never had the ending of my last novel really clear until the last few weeks before I finished. I was close but not there yet. But after multiple drafts and five years of editing and rewriting, it revealed itself. Trust your story, work your story, give it time and you'll be rewarded.
Dan Green If you enjoy being creative, then it's a very satisfying when you're doing something you love. As a retired dentist who thrives on being busy and engaged, working on a writing project provides a structure to my days that I would be lost without. Seeing this project through the marketing phase right now is refreshing part of the ride.
Dan Green Get started on something concrete even if it only writing exercises. One good one I was introduced to years ago was a basic exercise in self editing. Write 2-3 pages of dialogue and narrative about an interaction between two characters. Anything that comes to mind.
Do the same on day two with two completely different characters. On day three, go back to the work you did on day one and cut the word count by 25% without losing the jest of the story. It's great practice in making your writing tighter.
Do this with fifteen little stories and you'll be amazed by how much you improve.
Dan Green I just finished "Teeth, Lies & Consequences" in November. It took me about five years. I'm mulling new ideas right now, consciously and unconsciously, while I walk around with my marketing hat on and peddle my new baby.
It's another part of the authoring life that I enjoy. I love to engage readers and other writers in the craft of writing, publishing and promoting, so it's a nice change.
But come the new year, I will sit down and start putting new blocks of clay down on the page, even if I'm unsure where it's going. A screenplay is something that seems to want my attention right now. Waiting to long to start again only makes you rusty. Procrastination is not an option.
Dan Green Coming up with a workable idea is something that takes time to germinate. However, I believe that inspiration alone only goes so far. When you see that your ideas are no longer developing or changing that much, it's time to sit down and start writing. It's amazing how the narrative, the character development and the dialogue of your first draft will begin to feedback into your storytelling and provide you with more depth and inspiration than you ever imagined.
You must give your characters a life by putting them on a page and then good things can happen. This is what first drafts are for. To generate more ideas.
Dan Green After practicing Dentistry for thirty-four years, I wanted to write a story that would hook and hold a reader's interest but at the same time provide a glimpse into the life of a dentist who emulates the dedication, empathy and integrity of the many dentists and dental auxiliary personnel I have had the privilege to know throughout my career.
After fleshing out the idea for a novel in the thriller genre, I worked with a freelance editor to tweak the story line and then got down to work.
