Hi Jon,
Sorry, it's all gone quiet on this front at the moment. Still hoping.
All best,
Jasper.

Hi Kevin,
Got a couple in the pipeline. One is THE UNSHRIVEN - a supernatural horror set in New York City in the 1870s. The other as THE SISTERS' CHILDREN - a black magic story set in modern England.
Both currently looking for a publisher - fingers crossed!
All best,
Jasper.

Ah! I remember it well from my youth.
As for it's accuracy, it gets the basic idea across pretty well. Rasputin certainly did have many lovers, though it's a matter of debate as to whether the tsaritsa was actually one of them. In describing the monk's murder, the lyrics actually understate how difficult he was to kill.
The main problem is that omits the main reason that Rasputin became so influential. The tsarevich, Alexis, heir to the throne, suffered from haemophilia. Rasputin was a mystic healer and it was believed - particularity by the tsaritsa - that he was able to at least partially cure the boy. It was this, rather than his sexuality, that gave him such power in Russia.

THE LAST RITE is the fifth and final book of a quintet. That means that by now most of the inspiration comes from the previous four books. Plot threads that I've been developing for a long time and ideas that I introduced several books back now come to inevitable fruition.

To actually write - rather than plan and research?
The main inspiration is not delay writing. When I reach the point where I think I'm ready to start typing, I give it a few more weeks. That means both that the planning is a bit more polished and that when I start writing I'm really looking forward to it.

Final edits on THE LAST RITE, the final book of THE DANILOV QUINTET. Research into black magic for a new series of books.

Write.
(Apparently that's too short an answer, but there's no clearer way to express it.)

Getting to read lots of books for research and knowing that you're doing it for work, not just for fun.

Without wanting to tempt fate, I'm not sure I've ever suffered it. I do a large amount of planning up front, so when I'm actually writing I always know - to the level of a scene - what should be coming next.
That's not to say that during the planning process I don't sometimes find myself stumped for an idea, but at that stage I'm not pressurizing myself. Those ideas tend to come when you're doing something else.
Occasionally during the actual writing I find myself with really no idea how to express the scene I'm supposed to be writing, but I find then the best approach is just to press on. I write something for the scene so that I can move on to the next one, which hopefully will be easier. Then I can fix the tricky scene during rewrites.
