J.M. Hackman Watching a movie with great dialogue or reading a beautifully written book.
But sometimes it doesn't matter what I do or watch or read, the inspiration isn't there. And that's when you sit down and write anyway. It's a lot easier to edit garbage than it is to edit a blank page.
J.M. Hackman Creating new worlds, new characters, new plots -- creating is the fun part. And although revising isn't fun, watching a story get better and begin to sparkle is so satisfying.
J.M. Hackman Thankfully, I haven't had a severe case of it in a while. If I get stuck on a plot point, I'll write out all the different variations of what could happen, and sometimes I'll discuss it with my family, as well.
If it was a true case of writer's block where nothing was happening, I'd go do something I love. Go for a walk, talk to a friend, do some crafting, watch my favorite movie -- anything to get my creative juices flowing again.
J.M. Hackman Keep writing (and reading.) Drown yourself in the authors you love. Learn what works to develop your own style. And above all else, don't ever give up.
