Middle Earth! I'd track down Eowyn and convince her to start an orc-busting agency with me. Whenever orcs gave anyone trouble, folks would be able to hire us to deal with them -- for a fee, of course. I'd need a few sword-fighting lessons to pull it off, but no worries. I'm sure I'd pick it up in a day or two. :-)

I actually do have a mystery. Something very odd happened to me one day, and I can't get it out of my mind.
It was a Sunday. I left for church from my parents' house. They had departed for the same destination in their own car about one minute earlier. It's a five minute drive, and there is only one way to go. And I did not see my parent's car along the way. However, I beat them to the church. When they pulled up, they saw me walking up to the building.
Weird, right? How did I reach our destination when I left AFTER them and did NOT pass them along the way? Did I slip into a wormhole? Did THEY find a wormhole? I do live in Asheville, where people believe in vortices (yes, that is the plural of "vortex").
A town that's loaded with mysterious wormholes -- where people can disappear and reappear at random -- sounds like the start of a cool novel to me!

I think it has to be Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet in "Pride and Prejudice." There are so many amazing moments in their relationship -- when they make snap judgments about each other upon their first meeting... when Elizabeth brutally turns down Darcy's offer of marriage... when he continues to love her anyway and works behind the scenes to help her family... and when Elizabeth realizes that she really does love him. It's so brilliantly done. (And yes, I am a secret romantic!)

I write anyway. It doesn't matter if it's garbage. I can always edit it later. Just the process of getting words out on paper seems to get things flowing again for me.

I love creating characters and bringing worlds to life. Nothing pleases me more than when a character develops a distinct life of his own -- like Tim Hunter in The Mirror of Doom. Tim was always the main character in that book, but the novel was not originally written in his voice. In the first few versions of the book, I had used third person viewpoint for narration. Radically revising the story and putting it in the voice of 12-year-old Tim brought The Mirror of Doom to life. That was exciting to me.

Read a lot of books in the genre you're interesting in writing for. I'm an adult, but I continue to read middle-grade novels -- because that's what I write. And speaking of writing...
And write, write, write! The more you write, the better you will get. So just keep reading and writing.

Once I get through the launch process for The Mirror of Doom, I will be starting on book 2 of The Out-of-this-World Adventures of Tim Hunter!

I am a freelance copywriter. Clients hire me to write sales promotions for them. I always have deadlines, so I have learned to write -- whether I feel inspired or not! If I'm not feeling particularly inspired to work on my book, I start working on a scene that I'm excited about. That always gets me going!

"They" say to write about what you know. So, I wrote about my relationship with my siblings -- and threw in some fairytale fantasy and adventure fun.
