Gilbert-Ian Rueda Six years ago, I purchased a wooden elephant at World Market. He was and still is the most adorable little decorative piece I have. I felt he needed an inspirational name whose meaning would represent beautiful and positive things. His name would symbolize happiness, contentment, satisfaction and gratitude. As a flawed human being, I was looking for something I could look at and be inspired by every day. Its purpose would be to help me to live a more fulfilled and happy existence. After much research, I named him Santosh. It was only a matter of time before a story began to unfold in my mind. I gave him a dog named Cooper. (Cooper came from my own personal life. I have pug named Cooper.) He is also six. And so you see, Santosh and Cooper both came into my life at about the same time. It is from them that came this beautiful tale about friendship and courage.
Gilbert-Ian Rueda I get my writing space organized so that I won't have to leave unless I require a restroom or water break. I sit in a room, void of any noise, with music playing.
Gilbert-Ian Rueda I am currently working on a YA chapter book. I use quite a bit of imagery. I am really enjoying the descriptive aspect this story has taken.
Gilbert-Ian Rueda I can't tell you just how many times I felt overwhelmed and asked my higher power if this was the path that was chosen for me. But I continued on despite the many restless nights, lack of sleep, missed meals and stress that comes with getting a book ready. My advise is to write a story you have never read before. Don't allow for others to influence your story. Ask for opinions, but don't take them to heart. Create something memorable that means something incredibly special to you.
Gilbert-Ian Rueda There are so many wonderful things about being a writer. My lifelong dream to become a published writer has finally come true. It has allowed me to meet so many wonderful people. I feel an abundance of joy when parents share how my work is inspiring their own children. This makes all of my work and effort worthwhile.
Gilbert-Ian Rueda Sadly, I know this all too well! I deal with writer's block in various ways. The most effective tool I use to get my creative juices flowing again is music. I surf through my different channels/genres on Pandora until I find something that evokes a little bit of emotion in me. While writing my latest children's book, I recently discovered Celtic music. It's relaxing, deep and idea-provoking. Music without words tend to do the job quite nicely, if I may add.
