My biggest piece of advice is try to write every day, even if it's just a little. It can be really hard to write your first book, especially when other parts of your life require your attention. So everyday, try to write SOMETHING. It may be just a paragraph, or maybe even just an idea, but a little is better than none.

I have to walk away. When I just can't see to progress the story, I have to close the laptop, walk away, and do something completely different until my mind has cleared. Usually it's something active. That seems to help jog things loose.
