Many of you won't remember a TV series from the early 1970's, but McMillan and Wife first aired in September, 1971. It portrayed a police commissioner and his wife that solved crimes together in San Francisco. The main characters were played by Rock Hudson and Susan Saint James. I found the playful interaction of the couple and interesting stories made them my favorite fictional couple.

I don't have a solution for writer's block. When writing "Cold Case Club," I had to leave it for about six months. When I began writing again, my subconscious had figured out how to proceed. I wish I knew how to master my subconscious to make it work faster.

A writer is able to create a new world. The characters can be molded to be good or bad, handsome or ugly, smart or not-so-smart. Hopefully, a life lesson can be presented in an uplifting and entertaining way.

I have an idea for a group of characters. Then I plan a story around them. Sometimes, the story needs to change as the characters "teach" me who and what they are really about.

As corny as it sounds, I had a dream about the characters in my book. Then I crafted a story around these characters. As I worked on the story after the first draft, the characters became (almost) alive to me.
