I take most of my ideas from real-life, but often find that certain songs, poems, or dramas can bring new ideas to the forefront. I find that journal-writing also is effective. Truly, inspiration can be found almost anywhere. You know what's worth paying attention to when it strikes your cold, or just gently taps you on the shoulder. Ignore nothing as a writer - it's ALL potential gold.

Luckily, I don't encounter it often, but when I have felt stuck concerning a character or plot advancement, I usually try to distract myself from the writing. More often than not, the "answer" will appear in some other form, and put me back on track. I also find that journaling is a great way to keep the mind open to ideas and helps the words flow.
