I'm inspired all the time! I'll overhear a conversation, or remember something from my past, or sometimes people will come up to me and tell me that I must write their story! Years ago, I took a class with Gordon Lish and he said we have to write about our wound. In other words, the things that cause us pain or shame. That's another source of inspiration and yes, it can be cathartic.

Keep writing. Move forward. Do not get hung up on one project. Finish a novel and move on to the next one. You can bang your head against a wall sending out the same book or story, or revising and revising again and again and maybe what you really needed to do was to move on to the next.

The best thing about being a writer is inventing a new world, and for a few precious moments, getting to live outside this one.
