Meg Macy I knew about the Chelsea Teddy Bear Factory, which operated near Ann Arbor, but never had the chance to visit it before they closed and moved to Missouri. After researching their operations, I came up with my own small family business in a renovated house, with a factory on the property. It's always fun to make up your own version of "life" in a book!
Meg Macy The Chelsea Teddy Bear factory (now moved to Missouri) planted a seed long ago - I do love teddy bears, and collected them since my daughter was born. So when I needed an idea for a cozy mystery series... yes. A teddy bear shop and factory -- that started the ball rolling.
Meg Macy Wow, tough question. I think my enjoyment of reading "turned the page" after I read Snow Treasure by Marjorie McSwigan - either in 3rd or 4th grade. Such a fabulous story. I realized what "story structure" really meant after I read and re-read it. And the seed was planted.
Meg Macy Persistence is key, but also one must work hard to learn the craft. And once you're published, it's not over - work harder to hone your skills. Read the best in your chosen genre, plus in others. Always read!
Meg Macy Seeing your name on the book, on the shelf, at a bookstore or in the library. A long time dream of mine since I was a reader first!
Meg Macy Take a walk. Do housework (yes, it works - I loathe cleaning, but it makes me think since I'd rather do anything but that!). Listen to music or watch a movie. That usually gets the creative juices going again.
Meg Macy Right now I'm reading the Malice Domestic Mystery Most Historical anthology, with some great short stories. I'm also slowly getting through Ron Chernow's Alexander Hamilton, and have several mysteries on my Kindle. I do love reading more than one book at a time.
Meg Macy Working on Book 2, Bear Witness to Murder - coming out in 2018.
