I have a basic mind map/outline that I'm working from. I try to write at the same time every day. I write something in that time frame every day, no matter what.
If I get stuck on a particular section, I do one of two things. First, I do more research. Second, I just move on to another section of the book where I think I can actually accomplish some writing.

For me, it's a sense of accomplishment. I set a big goal in my life, and I achieved the goal!

1. Come up with a solid idea, preferably a topic that the majority of people are interested in such as money, relationships, etc.
2. Mindmap your idea (see Pat Flynn's excellent YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWoYH...)
3. Have a great writing tool to start "fleshing out" your mind map into an actual book format. I use Scrivener and love it!
4. Write something everyday, even if you only have 5-10 minutes.
5. Take baby steps and be persistent. It may take awhile, but eventually you will get the book written!

I'm currently promoting my first book Beyond Dave and Financial Peace since it just came out.

I get up early everyday, usually between 4:00-4:30am, and simply start writing. Sometimes you just need to "grind it out" and do the hard work. I have a goal in mind that I want to achieve, and a basic outline of what I'm writing. I write and then pray that God inspires my writing while I do the work!

The core idea came from my youngest brother and a financial friend of mine. We were discussing some of the problems found in Dave Ramsey's teaching and the Financial Peace University classes. A book idea was born from those two conversations!
