Raegan Teller He stood over the open grave and looked down at the woman he had once loved, the mother of his three children. After the last shovel of dirt had been put on the grave and patted down, he picked up the large glass jar holding her heart and walked back to his car.
Raegan Teller I am inspired by actual events that happen. For example, my husband's cousin was murdered in 1990 and they never found the killer. She quickly became a forgotten victim because she had fallen in with the wrong crowd and had been in trouble. So, I wanted to write about forgotten victims and explore that theme through a fictional murder mystery. The result was my first book in the Enid Blackwell Series, Murder in Madden.
Raegan Teller Aspiring writers need to sit down and write, first and foremost. Don't worry about publishing and marketing until you get into a routine of writing. I advocate for writing every weekday. I take the weekends off, which helps me signal to myself that writing is a profession, and I need to set personal boundaries. Once you have a decent book or story written, send it to beta readers and get feedback. Then listen to what they have to say. When you have a first draft you feel good about, then you can focus on publishing your work. Publishing today is far more complicated than it used to be. There are more publishing options, but also more confusion, so just take it a step at a time. Reach out to other writers and ask questions. Learn what publishing choices are available and then make the decision that works best for your writing goals and lifestyle.
Raegan Teller I was a business writer and copy editor for years, so I didn't have the luxury of writers block. You can't tell a paying client that you don't feel "inspired" or that you "just don't feel like writing today." I've found that if I just sit down and write, even when I'm not in the mood, I get into the story and get results. Of course, some days are always better than others--that's just life.
Raegan Teller Secrets Never Told, the third book in the Enid Blackwell series, will be out February 27, so that's where my focus is right now. However, I will soon begin the fourth book. I'm playing around with a few ideas now. All of my books are inspired by real-life events, so I've been thinking about things that I'd like to write about.
Raegan Teller Each of my books is inspired by real-life events. My most recently published book is The Last Sale, It was inspired by the disappearance of a young lady in Columbia, SC, and she was never found. I wanted to explore how the parents must have felt. It was a difficult book to write from an emotional standpoint.

Secrets Never Told, my third book in the series, will be published February 27, 2019. It was inspired by my experience as a juror on a murder trial.
