I look for interesting stories in the news and also draw on my experiences as a police officer. Living in Florida, with all the crazy goings-on, makes it easy to find something to write about.

Some years back, Florida was rife with the type of pain clinics featured in my book. Oxycodone and Oxycotin was readily available and abused. It became so bad people from all over the country came to Florida for easy access. It took years and many overdose deaths before the laws regulating pain clinics tightened and made access difficult. It was always big news in the Florida papers. This was the basic inspiration for the book.
