Racquel L. Mitchell Authors wield great influence. Writing children's books that promote financial literacy, diversity, and traditional Christian values is rewarding because it allows me to empower the next generation and bring families together. I once had a father send me a picture of him reading Penny Pincher Teaches Allowance to his little girl. That was very heartwarming. I've also had parents write to me that they were motivated to help their children become tithers or givers after reading Penny Pincher Teaches Tithing. These are the experiences that money doesn't buy. It's the opportunity of seeing an idea God gave you blossom to become something so much bigger than you and so much more meaningful than just words in a book.
Racquel L. Mitchell I've found that listening to classical music while writing really helps to combat writer's block. Additionally, I don't put undue pressure on myself to write perfectly the first time. I've accepted that there will be edits, so I usually write cathartically during the first draft phase. If I'm unable to come up with anything, I take that day off and focus on another activity. I know that when I've given my brain time to rest, I'll be back the next day better than ever.
Racquel L. Mitchell My latest book is Penny Pincher Teaches Savings, which will be published later this summer. It's the fourth book in the Penny Pincher Teaches series, and it continues where Penny Pincher Teaches Budgeting left off. The entire series was inspired by my parents, who taught me from an early age the value of being responsible with money. My goal is to share that wisdom with the next generation and encourage financial literacy among families.

Children learn to spend money at an early age as they watch their parents buy items to support their household; however, they rarely see their parents actively saving. Adults have an obligation to teach our children the value of saving money while they're still impressionable and able to establish good financial habits.

Investing in our children now will help them avoid high-interest debt and overspending. Unlike many generations that have come before them, I want our youth to be financially free. The Penny Pincher Teaches book series is my way of helping them learn the strategies and tools that will enable them to do that.
