Jed Henson UPDATE: I did neither of the below. Instead, I'm writing a biotech thriller tentatively titled The Yamanaka Factor, which involves an elderly homeless man in Portland, Ore., who receives an offer from a rogue pharma company to test its age-reversal therapy. He agrees, the therapy works (mostly), and hijinks ensue.

OLD: I'm currently struggling to decide whether to first write a sequel to my technothriller All In, or write Retired Gun, a (gasp!) western I've been kicking around for a year or so. I love westerns--I think I've read everything Louis L'Amour ever wrote--and I'm really drawn to this story. I've got the plot outlined, a main character fleshed out in my head and an kick-butt opening scene (if I do say so myself). However, it might make more sense to postpone the western and finish the Jim Ericssen vs. AI-nightmare story I began in All In. Argh, I don't know!
Jed Henson I began to get an idea for the main character a few years ago and kind of stashed him away on a "shelf." At the same time, I was reading a lot about artificial intelligence, and reading a lot of sci fi novels that involved interstellar travel and first contact with aliens. At some point—I don't remember exactly when or how—these ideas kinda rolled up together and I realized I had a story.
Jed Henson I step away from my computer/desk/office and find a good place to brainstorm, imagine, work through plot possibilities, etc. My favorite spot is a chair out back in the sun.
