During the cold war, I served in the military in Europe. I was in Stockholm when Olaf Palme, the Prime Minister, was assassinated. The city and country was stunned because political violence was rare in Sweden at the time. Olof Palme often traveled without a bodyguard. One person was convicted then later acquitted. To this date, the case has not been solved and the investigation is still active. Stockholm was in mourning. The feeling was very surreal. I still wonder who (individual, country, political opponent?) and why was he murdered.
