Thanks for asking Patty. I'm excited to say I have two books being published in 2019. Filter Press will be publishing my "Now you Know" Bio of Elizabeth Byers, the wife of Rocky Mountain News publisher William Byers, who came to Colorado in 1859. It is part of their "Now You Know" historical biographies that are aimed at 4-7th graders.
In August, the Hansen Publishing Group will publish the sequel to The Lucky Hat Mine, presently being called Shadows of Justice (working title, may change :) ) Here is a bit about it.
Colorado Territory, 1864: Murder, Mayhem, and Misadventures: The tale of Millie and Dom continues…
Newlywed Millie Virginia has barely settled into wedded bliss when her neighbor, the unpleasant Widow Ferris, is found with an icicle piercing her cold, dead heart. Suspects are bountiful—Widow Ferris has been blackmailing several of Idaho Springs' upstanding citizens—but Millie’s new husband, Dom, soon rises to the top of Sheriff Reynolds' list.
Determined to prove Dom’s innocence, Millie’s life takes an unpleasant turn when Dom is arrested and taken to the Denver City jail. Joined by Idaho Springs’ society matrons and assisted by Tit Bit, Idaho Spring’s fancy girl, Millie heads to Denver City, willing to do anything to keep Dom from swinging from the end of a rope.
Shadows of Justice intertwines Colorado history and historical characters into an engaging mystery that can be enjoyed by the whole family.

Thanks for asking Patty. I'm excited to say the Hansen Publishing Group purchased the sequel to The Lucky Hat Mine in November. If all goes well in the editing process, I'm hoping the next book, The Big Sandy Camp, will come out in November of 2018.

Like many readers, I am a huge fan of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, and love the romance between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. On a more modern note, I really enjoy J.D. Robbs In Death series, and the relationship between Eve Dallas and Roarke.

Thanks Maranda! So glad you enjoyed it. I am writing another adventure with Millie and Dom in Idaho Springs and Denver City. I hope it will come out late 2017 or early 2018. Will keep you posted. Julie

In the Lucky Hat Mine, I wanted to write a family friendly murder mystery set in frontier Colorado. I got the idea of a strong-willed Southern belle while visiting New Orleans. I did some historical newspaper research and found a wife-wanted ad and realized my character had to come West after answering such an ad and find her intended dead. After that, the mystery became intertwined with fun Colorado history and wonderful historical characters. It was as much fun to research as it was to write.

I'm working on a sequel to The Lucky Hat Mine, incorporating Colorado history form 1864.

The thing I love best about being a writer in weaving Colorado history and unusual Colorado historical characters into my novels. And of course, hearing when people enjoy my novel.

When I have an issue moving forward with my writing, I tend to reread the work I have completed and see if that clarifies where I need to go. If not, I'll go for a run and think about my writing.
