Issara Simone Edwards I've thought about this a lot and it would be Anne Rice's world of The Vampire Chronicles. Not because I want to meet Lestat or anything like that, for me it's more of a 'Merrick' situation. Merrick wanted to become a vampire not because she wanted to be a vampire but because she wanted the freedom to walk the night without the fear that plagues a lot of women. She wanted to be stronger than any predator lurking in the dark, she wanted the freedom of power and agency over herself. I think that's the appeal of the vampire world for me, it's not immortality, it's the freedom to be fearless in a world that can seem not meant for you and out to get you.
Issara Simone Edwards My most recent book is a collection of poetry called 'Oceans and Dust: Poems for Loneliness'. The book sort of happened organically after taking an online course with Commune. It was the Jacqueline Suskin course, 'Every Day is a Poem'. I used to write poetry everyday but that part of me got buried somewhere between here and there. The course revived the poet in me and I haven't been able to stop writing them since. I currently have plans for a second poetry collection, I'm currently just working on illustrations for it.
Issara Simone Edwards I'm currently working on my first full length novel. I've been working on it for a while actually. Although my current deadline is to have it finished by December 2022, so, it shouldn't be much longer. It's current title is 'What do the Nightbirds Sing?', which is something I've been reluctant to share because I could change my mind about the title last minute. And the book centres around three generations of women as the deal with race, abuse, sexual identity and mental health. Let's see if I can pull it off and get it all done in time.
