I tend to reach for books that are scary or dystopian in nature, so, I don't think I want to visit any of those places anytime soon. I live a simple, calm existence and prefer to keep my drama on the page and on the screen . . . where I can shut it off at will.

I have so many mysterious avenues to explore and I plan to . . . if given the time. Life is slipping away from me so fast. Perhaps the biggest mystery in my life is my heritage, which I am currently exploring in the books that comprise The Disturbing History Saga.

The couple I am always drawn to is Cathy and Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights. A love that endures beyond ego, social ills, mistakes, and death. What more could you ask for?

Everything inspires me to write. I see, hear, feel, taste, and touch the world around me and it makes me want to share it with those who might not have noticed the things that I did, so many bizarre and wonderful things.

I am currently researching and plotting the last novel of The Disturbing History Saga, the sequel to The Gator Leaves Nothing Behind.

Ask yourself this question . . . Why do I want this? If the answer is that you want to be a writer for fame or money, there are easier ways to get attention and make money hand over fist . . . just ask a Kardashian. If calling yourself an author is solely what you are after, you may be wasting your time, and setting yourself up for major disappointment.
I write because it won't leave me alone, like an itch you have to scratch. I feel better when I write as if it were vitamin C and awful when I don't. If this is how you feel about writing . . . then write, and keep writing and don't let anyone or anything keep you from it . . . including the voices in your head that try to sabotage your efforts. If you don't know what to do...find someone that is doing it right and walk how they walk, step where they step. Seek the people who know what to do and bug them until they spill the goods, or until they get a restraining order.

I am a naturally curious person with an active mind. Writing allows me to think, to imagine, to let the thoughts drift out of me, it feels like a release. Research gives me an excuse to explore the world, to learn new things I wouldn't have otherwise, to expand my mind and look at the different sides of the human condition. The process of writing shines a light in the corners of my thoughts, places I have rarely gone and I am sometimes amused—sometimes disturbed by what I find.

The only real block to my writing is time. Finding the time to write while running another business is difficult. The other thing that slows me down is research. I am writing a fiction novel that is dipped in the rich history of South Louisiana. I struggle with getting all the facts that I need for an era that came before I was born.

The birth of The Disturbing History Saga is a long story . . . I will attempt to answer this question without becoming novel-length in of itself. My husband, my daughter, and I had a running tradition of spending Thanksgiving Day eating popcorn at the movies. On Thanksgiving in 2007, as the final credits rolled by after Beowulf, we discussed breaking from our routine and taking a drive to visit our relatives in Houma, Louisiana. We stopped by our home to gather a few overnight supplies and for a reason, unknown to me at that moment, I grabbed a 5-subject notebook and a brand new pen. Miles of haggard Louisiana roads quickly passed beneath our truck bringing us nearer to my hometown, stirring many memories of the past swirling all around me, prompting question after question. I began to transcribe both questions and answers as I interrogated the one person that puzzles me most in the world . . . my mother.
Ten years have zoomed by between then and now. This epic story told itself to me and I stole minutes from my busy existence as a mom, wife, and salon owner to write it down . . . and I am still struggling and writing. Along the way, I gained bits of momentum as the story became more insistent about coming into the world. As if by an invisible force, I was led to to the people that were instrumental in assisting me where I was weak, to provide me with a welcomed push and a clearer path to publication.
The Gator Leaves Nothing Behind was intended to be only one title in what will be known as The Disturbing History Saga, it became Part I and Part II because of its length. There are at least two more titles to be released in the next few years. I was told once that you know when a series is over when the characters stop talking to you . . . mine still have more to say.
