Vincent Alcaras Two words: SIDE PROJECTS! You can never have too many side projects. All writer's block is, in my opinion, is boredom with a certain story. Step back, take a break, and write something else. I guarantee you'll start writing with a vigor you forgot you had.

Once you've hit a block with that side project, go back to the original. If you can't gain any ground on it, tamper with a new side project.

Eventually the flow with your original work will return, just keep writing.
Vincent Alcaras This is a hard one, as it's hard to describe, and I guess it's the duality of two sensations.

I like the feeling of creation. That I'm fleshing out these characters and orchestrating their stories. I guess in a way it's a chance to feel like I'm playing God. Like I have the power to either button things up perfectly, or not, based only on my will and sense of creativity.

Also, I do love seeing the finished manuscript sitting in front of me, and the feeling of having conquered the unruly beast that my mind spews out at me.
Vincent Alcaras Write. Whatever comes to your mind, just write it down. Whether it's working on a story, or just jotting down a strange idea that hit you out of the blue. Just because you can't figure out where to go with something, doesn't mean you won't in the future.

Also, consume as much media as you can with a story element. Books, movies, video games, domestic, foreign, whatever. Constantly expose yourself to different ways of thinking and conveying a story. You never know what you might stumble upon that helps you finish an idea that you've hit a road block with.
Vincent Alcaras I am currently working on the sequel to "No Rest for the Wicked", which is titled "The Devil's Due." I also have a constant stream of side projects taking up my time, including other novels and also screenplays.
Vincent Alcaras I'm not entirely sure what inspired me to write. The only way I know how to explain it is that I've always been able to see possibilities. I would very often read a book or consume a story through any medium and ask the question, "why didn't they just do this?" Or, "why would they do that?" At the end of the day, I guess my mind is just geared toward seeing all the possible outcomes. When I write I simply find the most entertaining, fitting, and, at times, poignant avenues I can see.
Vincent Alcaras This book had many incarnations over the years, which changed and morphed with the every new element I added to the story. All of these additions and changes are meant to highlight one very specific need for every man, woman or child. The need to accept your shadow. The nastier parts of your personality. If you don't do that, you'll always be on the run from yourself.
