Getting to meet and talk to so many interesting people on a variety of topics, who are mostly more than willing to divulge whatever they know, to a 'writer'. Also, it's great to be able to work at home so much, or sit in a cafe and write and watch the world go by. Writing can be done anywhere. It's hard work though and the flow of ideas is what sustains me.

The Reiki book was an easy one: no one had ever written on this topic before and so there was a gap that needed filling, so I wrote it. My novel sprang from experiences I had in Sudan, in the uncovering of a major scandal whilst researching for a blog, that involved the theft of a school by the Anglican Church hierarchy, linked to a donation by the British royal family and a previous internationally reported scandal at the same school.

Along with a number of articles on various topics (Reiki, veganism, art education) for the English-language press in Egypt, where I am currently living, I am writing a novel, based on my experiences of being a teacher in Sudan, called 'The Temple of the Djinn'.

Go make a coffee, stare out of the window, make lists, edit the lists, make more coffee, then when I am done prevaricating, mentally beat myself up, and force myself to sit down and write. Write whatever, and then keep writing, until the block is gone. After more coffee, edit what I wrote and carry on. Usually what I wrote is rubbish, so it needs editing. But once I am back into the flow of writing, it seems to carry on flowing.
