I wanted to write a novel (or I guess a novella, as it probably turned out to be; less than 50,000 words) that involved the rape fetish, and also Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome or Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder. It didn't end up being QUITE as sexually charged as I thought, and I also ended up really coming to like how the characters turned out. Hopefully I didn't make Amber TOO painfully shy for readers, but I found it very cute, but also found it to be interesting how she ends up in a dark place if not physically abused during sex, yet he DOES end up in sort of a dark place when physically abusing women.
Where did I get the actual idea? Well, I had a girlfriend years ago who had a rape fetish, and found it incredibly hot. Initially, I was apprehensive. Quite a 'beta'; I believed that 'all women should be respected all the time' and what not. Some women don't WANT respect all the time though. Sometimes behind closed doors, they want to be forced upon, used, taken, degraded, and so on and so forth. There's nothing wrong with that, it doesn't make them weaker than women who demand respect 24/7, nor does it make them a bad person. It's simply what they desire, it's what gets them off, and in spite of what I had anticipated all those years ago (that I wouldn't like it), I very much enjoyed giving that dominant aspect.
When I did research on it, it turned out that the 'rape fetish'/'rape fantasy'/'rape play' was a very common fetish. Lots of people have it. It's certainly not a politically correct thing to discuss or write about, but I think the world is TOO politically correct. We can't restrict ourselves by it, in fact we mustn't. We must resist it, and I guess that's what inspired me to make the book. The necessity to resist political correctness, as well as the desire to explore this fetish. To make a situation with some characters where it tests them, and also to try and take a stab at PSAS/PGAD. As it says in the 'Dedication' portion of the book though, I hope I did it justice, and didn't offend anyone who actually have it. I must admit though, thinking back on my teen years, had I known about that syndrome/disorder back then, I probably would have believed myself to have it.
It really is probably a bad idea for me to be answering these while still feeling drunk the night before; I feel as though I'm being FAR too open for my own good... (hide spoiler)]

I just write. If a good idea comes to me, or at least an idea I find enjoyable, then I just go with it. It'd be pretty funny to say 'I just have a toke and inspiration comes to me', but alas, I'm not a stoner anymore. Fun times though, and I imagine it would indeed provide inspiration. Perhaps if Trudeau j.r. gets it legalized like he's been saying he will, I'll go ahead and get stoned again. It's been years. Anyways, to answer the question, inspiration basically just comes to me.

At this particular moment in time (I don't know if dates are recorded for these answers, but it's early in the morning on November 13th, still feel drunk from the night before), my next project will likely be to make a second edition of Living amongst the Dead to fix the issue of capitalized words in non-dialogue portions of the book. I've been told by a few people that it's unpleasant when reading, almost like the book/writer is yelling at the reader, which perhaps isn't what I was going for. At least, not the sense that it's unpleasant.
I'm also going to go about putting my recently published novella When Her 'No' Means 'Yes' on Goodreads. That's probably what I'm going to do before finally going to sleep again. Tomorrow I'll likely improve the description.

Just write. Try not to get discouraged, and just keep writing. For aspiring authors (people who haven't published yet), I point out CreateSpace as an easy place to start. Even if they end up thinking their first novel isn't very good, the only way to get better is to keep writing. I've already been writing off and on for over a decade, so I sort of have a head start on it, but I find it incredibly enjoyable to write, and so I encourage anyone interested to give it a go.

It feels incredible. I've wanted to write a novel about surviving in a zombie apocalypse for literally YEARS, and I have finally done it. Now I've got a novella written and I really like the story and characters I've created. The ability to say 'I am a published author' feels great, even though I've only ever said it once to someone. Being able to make characters, environments, events, and so on... it really is incredibly fun. I've been writing for years, and even for all those years before becoming published, I've just outright found writing to be enjoyable.

I consider myself a pretty patient person, and fairly imaginative. I don't think I've suffered a real instance of writer's block yet in these first two books, but we'll see. If I ever get to the point where I get truly stumped, I'll likely just leave it alone for a while until an idea comes to me.
