I would go to the Roman court of I Claudius, which is not fully fictional. I have always been interested in Roman history and would love to witness the intrigue first hand. Generally, I'd keep a low profile, and keep my ears open.

I'm reading a lot of history right now - my reading time tends to be limited just because I spend all my time writing. But understanding history of all types is very important to understanding where we are today. Plus it's a great place to find fantastic stories and characters.

I got the idea for Santa Inc. from my love of Christmas, from wanting to write a new take on it that includes other things that I am interested in like business and also the darker side of story telling. I tried to whip them all up and create something new. But most fundamentally it was a love of Christmas.

I try to avoid writer's block - I think the way to do it is to force yourself to write garbage until you start writing well again. It's about like running the hot tap until hot water comes out. The hot water always comes out eventually but sometimes you have to wait a little.
