A.W. Ryleigh I have a strange way of dealing with writer's block. When this happens, I know for me, my brain just needs a bit of a jumpstart. I do this by picking up a book that makes me think and work harder to decipher. Perhaps it is metaphorical in nature but, for me, this book is Plato's Allegory of the Cave. In it Plato has Socrates describe a group of men who have been chained up in a cave all their lives. These men have spent their lives facing a blank wall. It somehow magically snaps me out of writer's block and back to business: writing.

A.W. Ryleigh The freedom to jump into the lives of others, to create those lives, to live them, to experience them....
A.W. Ryleigh My advice for writers is that there is no perfect time to write. You have to learn to be a bit of a thief when it comes to writing. A writer must steal every minute possible. If you only write for twenty minutes a day this is okay. Word by word, sentence by sentence, paragraph by paragraph, a book is built.
A.W. Ryleigh I am currently writing GOLEM, the sequel to PRETA. I am also nearly finished plotting out my newest book idea, AFTER DARK.
A.W. Ryleigh Writing stories is something I have done for as long as I can remember. Inspiration comes when I have a character whose story starts to develop and needs to be told. I read once that inspiration comes from preoccupation. I believe there is merit to this idea.
A.W. Ryleigh PRETA took three years to create, plot and write. My main character, Sam, appeared to me first and from there, her story started to develop. Often, my ideas start with a character and I ask myself, "What is this character's story and motivation?"
