Good question because I am in the middle of writing a couple of Christmas Short Stories, and I am also working on the third book in the Jack Kelly series(Book of Souls). I'm not sure which is more complex. A short story does need to be complete, and you have to be careful not to rush the end; however, a novel has to keep a reader's interest throughout 60,000+ words. I enjoy both for different reasons.
