I slowly approached the refrigerator and pulled the door open. The half-and-half was gone; I would have to drink my coffee black.

I don't read a lot of romance but I suppose Robin Hood and Maid Marion would qualify as my favorite because I really like their backstories!

I do something other than writing to help stimulate my creativity, such as photography, drawing, or crafts. Sometimes it's necessary for me to be away from my computer for a couple of days, especially after I'm finished with major projects.
The best way to overcome writer's block when I'm working on something is to set myself time and word-count goals. Even if I write dribble to start with, once I've broken through that ice I can get my draft on the page. It's like running: the best way to prepare for a race is to jog slowly and get your muscles warm.

Don't get hung up on perfectionism during the writing process. Try to focus on getting the story idea down and the basics of the plot in order. Rewriting is for sorting out details, fixing continuity issues, and filling in plot holes. Editing comes at the end, but don't overlook it.
I would also caution against starting too many projects and leaving them unfinished. It tends to drain energy and you may start to feel as though you can't get anything done -- and the more things you start and leave hanging the worse that feeling gets!

I'm currently working on several fiction and nonfiction projects, including a Steampunk short story for Corrugated Sky's second anthology, which is due out in late spring 2017. I'm also doing the final edit on my first novel and hope to have that out early next year, too.
In nonfiction, I am working on a biography of Ray Bradbury and an article on the historical and cultural context of his work for a forthcoming entry in the Salem Press Critical Insights series. Additionally, I am slowly working on developing my master's thesis into a full-length book.
