Michele Rigby Assad The idea for this book came when I was still working at the CIA. I had such a challenging career serving in some really tough places, and it seemed that the harder the tour, the more I learned and the more I contributed to the mission. In fact, I learned more in Iraq than all my other tours combined.

It was there, at the height of the war--that I was able to make the most significant contributions. Had I gotten my way and gotten out of that tour, I would have never gained this level of counterterrorism and counterintelligence expertise. The very place I tried to avoid was the place in which I shined. What a lesson!

I wrote this book in faith that the agency would let me drop cover and would approve the publication of stories from my time on the frontline of the war on terror. And luckily, they have. Today I'm using my story and experiences to inspire others. Now that's a worthwhile mission!
