Val Wilson Hi Lisa,

Thanks for asking! HOW TO REDUCE YOUR CHILD'S SUGAR INTAKE is due to be published next year on January 14th.
Val Wilson Hi Judith,

Thanks for your question. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, meaning people with it have a compromised immune system, making them more likely to get colds and flu. The continual mention in the news of 'underlying health conditions' means those with suppressed immunity to infection.

Test your blood glucose levels regularly - before meals, before bed and before driving anywhere. If you think you have any symptoms of coronavirus, follow sick-day rules (regular blood tests to manage your diabetes, especially if you're not feeling like eating, and keep hydrated). You may need up to three times as much insulin when your body is fighting infection. Also check the Diabetes UK website if you can for up-to-date advice on coronavirus and diabetes.
Val Wilson Hi A.B.,

Thanks for your question. Blood glucose levels are affected by many different things, such as the amount of activity you do, your emotions, hormone levels and other medications. With so many factors contributing towards blood glucose levels, they can vary greatly from day to day, despite eating the same meals and having the same amount of insulin.
Val Wilson Hi Sam! Yes, I've had Type 1 for 42 years now. Thanks for reading my books - I hope you find them interesting and helpful.
Val Wilson I'm planning to read SOME TAME GAZELLE and SLEEPING BEAUTIES by the fantastic author, Mavis Cheek very soon!
Val Wilson Nadine lay cold in the subterranean coffin; it was a crime born of love, there had been no deliberate plan to lure Chloe's fiance away. A pool of dank water gathered at her feet as the fetid air became thinner; only her tormentor knew she was there - destined to miss her own wedding, the product of a drunken hen night.
Val Wilson I'd travel to the village of Hogsmead in Harry Potter world! Then I'd buy a lovely little cottage and write spell books.
Val Wilson I find my biggest problem is motivation to write after the Christmas break. I've found the best way to move forward with a book is to re-read what's already written so I can pick up the thread and find my train of thought again.

If you can't move forward, work on a section that you want to write and then fill in the gaps later. I was delighted to find that it doesn't have to be a linear process, and this really does work!
Val Wilson Ha-ha! It's not glamorous and involves a lot of hard work and discipline, but I love being able to write what I want when I have the inspiration.
Val Wilson Read as many books as you can and write what you know. The first draft is exactly that - you can edit it as many times as you like until you're satisfied, so don't be afraid of getting started.
Val Wilson A second book for Little, Brown Book Group about the health benefits of reducing sugar in the diet.
Val Wilson I write fiction under a pen-name and non-fiction as Dr Val Wilson (PhD.) My ideas for all my books come from engaging in what's going on around the world and from my own experiences.
Val Wilson I've had Type 1 diabetes for 42 years and when this was first diagnosed in 1977, my Mum read a fantastic book called Pure, White and Deadly by Dr John Yudkin. It described the dangers of sugar in the diet and how, as a nation, we were eating more and more of the white stuff. Today, manufacturers add sugar to almost every food!

I've always wanted to write a book about sugar myself and now my publishers, Little, Brown Book Group, have given me the opportunity to do just that. HOW TO REDUCE YOUR CHILD'S SUGAR INTAKE: A QUICK AND EASY GUIDE TO IMPROVING YOUR FAMILY'S HEALTH will be published in January, 2021 and will be available online from Amazon, Waterstones and W.H. Smith.
