I like the description of "binge-writing". A subject will swirl around in my head for days, weeks, months, or even years, and then, suddenly, it must come out. I will spend hours completely focused on getting it out. At that point the substance is usually fairly complete but I will edit and revise many more times before I think it's 'done' done.
