Apparently I never answered. And never will. I'm more into talking about character. Not really. I'm deeply superficial. I'm getting confused.

It's not something I deal with a lot, but it has struck me a few times. I'll read a lot during these times, and then I'll just take a break for a day. Then it's time to get on it, so I just start punching keys, letting ideas come to me. Maybe two or three rejected story ideas hit you and form into one thing that makes sense. You never know. Spend a day writing total garbage. It's not a waste. You're still getting better, no matter what.

A writer is a creator, and there's something wonderful about creations. The story and characters are as you want them to be. The world is chaotic and often the rules don't make sense. If you're a writer, you make the rules. Call me crazy, but I think THAT rules.

I think you have to be a little obsessed. Take criticism but don't let it rule you. The usual. Platitudinous advice but that doesn't mean it's not true. Anyway, what do I know. I'm an aspirant myself, probably always will be.

I'm currently re-refining another novel that will be released, most likely February. It's already finished but needs the fine-tuning. I'm also starting a kind of family drama. It will be my fifth novel. I want to do something smaller in scale that drills down into the characters in a way that I've never tried.

Fortunately, I write everyday, whether it be a new book, or my blog. Maybe it's the sound of the keys or the repetition, but creating is something that is very addictive for me. Obviously, reading other books is something that gets me going. I'll admire something from another author and it gets me pumped.

I really enjoy fast-paced spy thrillers, but think sometimes the characters are too perfect. I wanted to portray a very skilled man who is at the same time extremely neurotic and flawed. Telling the story first-person seemed the way to do this.
