I just read your newest release: Regretfully Invited. Are you planning on turning any of these shorts into full length stories? I hope you consider the "foot" one. I really think you have a knack for mystery writing.
Jan L. Mayes Thank-you! I love writing weird little mysteries. The foot is based on a local mystery. I hadn't thought of making them into full length but will keep that in mind.

what inspired you to write Tinnitus Terror Tales?
Jan L. Mayes I see people and manufacturers trying to take advantage of people with tinnitus by selling cures and lying about what their products do. They're all about the money. Doctor Bell popped in my head at first for a 50 word story challenge I was doing. Then I kept getting more and more ideas on terrible tinnitus experiments Doctor Bell could do. And so he began. :)

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?
Jan L. Mayes When I was camping at 9 years old and saw a man walk into an outhouse. I waited and waited. Knocked on the door. No answer. I opened the door. The outhouse was empty. Was it my first full body apparition?

Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?
Jan L. Mayes Alan Desland and Kathe Geutner from The Girl in a Swing (Richard Adams). Because love does not conquer all. Not even the paranormal.

Why did you choose a hummingbird as your logo?
Jan L. Mayes Buzz buzz. I was trying to link my T with a positive sound. And I like hummingbirds. My T is more like the squealing screech you hear when a big truck slams on its brakes. It's like an uninvited house guest who refuses to leave no matter what you try. Thanks for asking!

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Jan L. Mayes I have a blog, write short horror stories and am working on a paranormal mystery trilogy. So if I'm stuck on one type of writing, I switch to something else until I get over the block.

How do you get inspired to write?
Jan L. Mayes I see or hear strange things on the news or in my daily life that give me twisted ideas.

What are you currently working on?
Jan L. Mayes Tinnitus short horror stories about a maniacal research doctor obsessed with finding the cure. More short stories: mostly horror.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Jan L. Mayes I did a 50 word story challenge, and it has turned into a collection of 4 short stories. The rest are definitely longer than 50 words.
