Dallis Adams I would go to Lord of the Rings' Rivendell. I would get the elves to forge me a sword and shield, and give me some of that elven magic.
Dallis Adams I skip to a scene that I know I need to write.
Dallis Adams The book having been written! The process. Looking back and revising, and marveling at the quality of my own writing. Wow. That's good. Did I write that??? LOL!
Dallis Adams Take fiction writing classes at your community college. Join a critique group. Find writers you trust. Write every day. Be open to criticism. Don't be afraid to revise. Many times rewriting is where I find the most fun in the process.
Dallis Adams Book three in the Cryptic Cove Mysteries called Uma's Urchins.
Dallis Adams Writing is my job. I think it's important to have a routine. I get up in the morning, grab a cup of coffee and make myself a bowl of steel-cut oats. As I'm eating, I think of what I wrote the day before and what I want to accomplish that morning. Then I take my muses (Tilly and Jockamo--sweet tiny Maltese dogs) close the door, and write. I write an hour or so and then get up to stretch my legs. I shoot for six hours, usually from seven a.m. to one p.m. (sometimes longer). I leave notes for myself when I finish for the day so I know where to pick up the next morning.
I draw on funny things that have happened to me and tweak it. Or people I meet inspire me. My relatives also inspire me. Sometimes news articles stick with me, or things on social media. The mind is a wonder, and mine is sometimes crazy! It's important to live, to gather fodder for more books.
Dallis Adams From readers. I had a slew of readers ask if I would write more books with the setting in Cryptic Cove. I had written a book, Uma's Umbrage, at the request of Caroline Lee who organized a multiple author series called Alphabet Mail-Order Brides. I had so many readers ask for more books. So I dropped what I was working on, and set up this series. Uma's Undoing is book two in the Cryptic Cove Mysteries. In Uma's Umbrage, there was backstory about one of her stepsisters who died of the ague. I developed that thread by having Uma blame the doctor for her stepsister's death. The doctor in question comes to Cryptic Cove and Uma lambasts him, threatening him in a specific way if he doesn't leave town. Of course, he ends up dead, exactly how she describes it. Which makes her the suspect!
