My latest book took approximately 8 years and a minimum of 12 re-writes to bring to fruition; a long pregnancy and lengthy labor. So, I'm not in a hurry to work on anything other than helping my publisher get it "out there." Besides, I write when I feel inwardly called to do so, not because I have an agenda I'm trying to fulfill. Hope this helps.

It takes a lot of dedicated work, time, and effort. Don't be motivated by any false sense of financial returns or prestige. You have to do what your doing because it is a calling and then leave the fruits of your efforts to later. Can't control outcomes so don't bother having such things occupy your mind. And, lastly, don't be misled by any expectations of quick and easy or people who claim to have readily published books. Anyone can publish toilet paper these days if they self-publish. Having a quality work recognized by others in the industry is another thing. Best to you.

Either walk away and do something to get my energies moving again in a related or unrelated way; exercise, errands, meditation - whatever, then return when my mental state has shifted. Or, make some coffee and try to bust through a temporary condition. Even relocating to a different site to write can cause a shift. If neither work then it's best to try option #1 since hanging around won't do much good. The goal is to remove impediments to inspiration and the ability to articulate them. This typically boils down to moving energy and increasing receptivity to a core idea or concept. As mentioned, when option #1 is done with that in mind, perhaps especially with meditation and receptive prayer - yes, there is a science to these, it can be most inspiring and helpful. Then, get back on the horse and get to it disregarding any immediate sense that what's coming forth may not be worthwhile. Sometimes it takes a bit to prime the pump. Hope this helps.
