I started my recent book in the late 1990s. A couple of years ago, I found it when I was purging and decided it was time to finish it.

Before I start writing, I spend a lot of time planning my book and on character development. By the time I start writing, my characters are like friends. In fact, I talk about them as if they were real people. However, the extensive preparation before writing the actual book keeps me from having writer's block. I know what "problem" I am trying to solve within my characters.
