Teralyn Mitchell One way that I deal with writer's block is stepping away from the story I'm having trouble with and working on something else. That usually helps and eventually, I will go back to the story when inspiration strikes for the story I'm struggling with. Also, talking it over with someone helps me come up with something to keep me moving on my story.
Teralyn Mitchell I think the best thing about being a writer is sharing your work with readers and getting their feedback. Also, being able to create characters and worlds that I hope a reader can fall in love with and characters they can relate to.
Teralyn Mitchell Being a writer is hard work. So much goes into that a lot of people do not realize. My main advice is to make writing a habit and to do that is to write every day even if it’s just a few hundred words and even, especially, if you do not feel like it. Once it’s a habit be sure to take breaks so as not to burn yourself out. Also, another piece of advice would be to just write when it comes to that first draft. Do not worry about it being perfect. Do not read what you’ve written (unless you stepped away for a time and need to figure out where you left off) or edit as you are writing. That first draft is really just getting your idea on the paper or screen. Also, be willing to rewrite. Writing is rewriting so do not fall in love with what you’ve written but the concept of what you’re writing. Be willing to make the necessary changes by cutting what just doesn’t fit. And finally, believe in yourself and your work and be willing to put yourself out there and share it with others. Just don't ever give up on writing if it is your dream and keep striving to be the best you can be.
Teralyn Mitchell I am currently working on books two & three of my series, The Chronicles of Caesea. I am editing and rewriting book two while working on the first draft of book three.
Teralyn Mitchell I usually just sit down and write whether I'm inspired or not. I usually am lately and can be found writing most afternoons and into the night when I'm most productive. Inspiration isn't something I am willing to wait for so I usually try to write at least a few hundred words a day. But for ideas, I usually get them from things I watch, read, or see. Sometimes I just have a question that turns into a story or if I'm working on a story, another idea about the story or a minor character will give me the premise for a new story.
Teralyn Mitchell I got the idea for my most recent book from reading a book set in Regency London and wanted to try writing a similar story that dealt with using horses and castles but not necessarily set in Regency or Medival times. It's an alternative fiction set in an alternative time.
