Jene Ray Barranco For me, inspiration to write comes on with great force the more I pull away. I have always preferred a quiet life - even as a child. The other children played freeze tag, football, or red rover while I sat on top of a tree or played inside with my dolls or, when I got into middle school, I disappeared with my sketchpad and charcoal pencils. I write best in a very simplified environment. I need large amounts of space in my mind to allow my thoughts to breathe and grow. Nature alone inspires me so I make a habit of taking periodic writing retreats to a cabin in the woods with a pond, a house near a beach with bike rides on my breaks or long walks by the water, and if I'm lucky, a place tucked away somewhere with snow and mountains. The more hours I write in succession, the more the inspiration comes.
Jene Ray Barranco First, I step away. Next I typically pick up a book from the stack of books I'm currently reading. Spending time reading works of other authors always inspires me. A sentence, a thought, a story, or a conversation, in a book often set off something inside me and my mind goes off in a fresh direction. Exercising and spending time outdoors works wonders for me as well. I have also found that watching movies feeds my creativity - drama, comedy, rom-com. This works like a charm every time, especially when it comes to blog posts.
