Just finished Daughters ...and must complement you for the brilliantly written and researched book. It sure was an eye opener, i think its a must read for all those who try to shackle Muslim women today . It is strange that growing up we never heard or read of these incredibly formidable women who not only shaped the destiny of the Mughal Empire but of Hindustan itself, any plans of completing the series ?

Just wanted to thank you for the wonderful book on Mughal women. Please write about more Mughal women. I'm sure you know of many that you were unable to include. Is that possible, perhaps as blog posts?
Ira Mukhoty So glad you enjoyed Daughters of the Sun. In my forthcoming book, Akbar: The Great Mughal, i have tried to include many women who are not usually mentioned in a record of Akbar's life, including some old familiar ones from Daughters... A blog is a good idea, perhaps i could do that too:-)

Hi Just finished your book on Mughal ladies. It was really an enjoyable experience. While you have written about foster mother of Akbar and even ladies who were appointed for teaching Mughal princesses, is there any particular reason, you did not comment on 'Anarkali'? Do you also believe that she is a fictional character? Did you come across any reference to such person while researching for this book?
Ira Mukhoty Hi I only chose some 15 women to talk about and therefore there are many who have been left out including women for whom there is very little historical data, such as Anarkali. i particularly wanted to avoid focusing on them only as mythical love interests
