Amanda McKinney Hi Janice!! Congratulations on winning a signed copy! I so hope you enjoy Buried Deception and that it delivers the page-turning escape you're looking for. As for what's next: I recently finished the second book in the series, Trail of Deception - oh my God I can't wait to release that one into the wild! Early 2023, I believe! :)
Amanda McKinney Well, between writing and raising my babies, I only have a few fleeting moments a day to (attempt) to read, but, I just purchased Nora Roberts new book, Come Sundown. It's great so far! And, I can't wait for the next book in Laura Griffin's Tracer Series, Touch of Red. I love that series! I also plan to read one of Karin Slaughters books this summer. I haven't read any of her books yet and apparently they're pretty darn good.
Amanda McKinney Vodka!!!!!! Okay, not all the time. Honestly, I step away from the keyboard and take a lap around the house, take a few deep breaths, and just take a minute. And, if I still have the dreaded block when I sit back down, I force myself to just begin typing . . . even if it's an awful, unemotional sentence that barely fits (I know I can go back and change it). And, more often then not, my creative juices start flowing again. And then I reward myself with another drink. Just joking.
Amanda McKinney For me, it's the creative outlet it gives me. Writing feeds a tenacious beast inside me that needs to create, explore and dream. I absolutely love creating characters and crafting stories; I go to sleep thinking about the book I'm wrestling with, and wake up thinking about it. It's ridiculous really.
Amanda McKinney My number one piece of advice is to write every day!! Even if it's just a few paragraphs, do it. This will keep your creative juices flowing and will help to keep the same tone throughout the story you're creating.
Also—and this is totally cliche—don't give up - stay committed. Keep wrestling with that story until you've got it perfect. If I didn't "commit to being committed", I would have given up on every single book Ive written. There will ALWAYS be days where you have no idea where to take the story, or what to say next . . . and that makes it very easy to give up! But, keep at it. :)
